Sebastian Wong
I first got to know of 42 Singapore right after finishing my National Service not too long ago. At the time, I was searching for a change in my academic focus. However, coming from an Engineering background, I did not have much prior knowledge and wondered if I was up to the task of tackling a curriculum focused solely on programming. Nevertheless, I gathered up the courage to try out the online games and before long, I found myself in the 42 lab on the first day of my Piscine.
If you ask me to describe my Piscine experience in one word, it would have to be “unforgettable”. The unconventional learning approach was a breath of fresh air from the usual method of delivery in a typical school, having no lecturers bearing down on us and getting to work on every aspect of our projects together was very encouraging and motivating. Make no mistake, it was tough even for those with prior experience, but the camaraderie and discipline built throughout the 26 days brought us closer and pushed all of us to work hard to pass the Piscine.
Fast forward to now, and the projects in the core curriculum aren’t any easier, but who ever said it was going to be right? Even so, life at 42 is a lot more than just coding, with weekly conferences, workshops and even fun casual events like badminton or gaming tournaments, and I’m thoroughly enjoying every bit of it. This journey to complete 42 is going to be a long one, but I’m very excited to discover the opportunities that await me along the way!
